The Ecuadorian Film Festival Is Here…Again!

The fact that there’s even an Ecuadorian Film Festival elates me. Let’s face it—Ecuador isn’t really on the map like that in terms of cinema. But hopefully that’s changing. To that end, the Third Annual Ecuadorian Film Festival is going down in New York, home to over 260,000 ecuatorianos (including yours truly), at the Queens Museum of Art, Friday March 13 & Saturday 14, from 7 – 10 p.m. The bilingual Festival already made its stop in Washington D.C. in February, but unlike D.C., admission here in NYC is free! You heard that right. I even called to make sure.
This year’s festival will encourage discussions of issues relevant to the Ecuadorian community, like what mestizaje means. The exciting new work of over 15 filmmakers will be showcased through video art, documentaries (Este Maldito Pais by Juan Martín Cueva, Trafficombo by Pedro Andrade) and feature films (Blak Mama by Miguel Alvear & Patricio Andrade). Check out Juan Martin Cueva’s blog here.
For directions click here or call: 718.592.9700 ext 140. A nice man named Gabriel Roldós will answer.
